Defective Child Activity Centers Cause Falls, Injuries

ProductDef

Parents buy all kinds of stuff for their babies, from clothing to diapers to bottles to formula to walkers to toys. Moms and dads expect that the products they buy will be safe for their little ones to use. Unfortunately, though, sometimes defects occur, causing children to get seriously injured.

A child activity center sold by Walmart has been recalled after many of the units have broken and injured children. Approximately 115,700 Cosco Jump, Spin & Play Activity Centers were recalled on October 26 after concerned parents filed reports. More than 100 of the units have suddenly broken, causing babies to fall and suffer minor injuries. Two models have been recalled – WA105FZW and WA105GML – which denote the blue and pink colors of the activity center.

The activity centers were manufactured in China. They feature a circular hoop base and three upward-facing poles. Each pole has a strap that connects to a suspended child seat and play tray. The products include two removable toy animals on the play tray at the front of the seat as well as two toy animals hanging from the front two poles. The activity centers can be adjusted to three different heights.

The activity centers were sold at Walmart between November 2020 and October 2023. The price was roughly $70.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received 141 reports of the straps coming loose or breaking while the child is sitting in the activity center. There have been 38 reports of injuries. Thankfully, all have been minor and include scratches, bumps, and bruises.

Those who have purchased a Cosco Jump, Spin & Play Activity Center are asked to stop using them immediately and to contact Dorel Juvenile Group so that they can be sent a replacement unit. To get a replacement, you will have to contact Dorel. You will be instructed to cut through the straps and send a photo of the destroyed activity center.

You can contact Dorel several ways. You can call them toll-free at (877) 657-9546 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday ET.
